What Do You Truly Know of Truth?
"Then
said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye
continue in my word,
then are ye my disciples
indeed; And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free."
John 8:31, 32
Today, we live in
the most wonderful age of technology and academics. We have
amongst us great renowned colleges and universities, both
Christian and secular. There are countless libraries and
study halls in which to indulge our time for knowledge and
trade wisdom. Yet, it seems amongst all this higher learning
and skill, there is a lack of understanding. I feel it is
because man inherently follows his desires of wealth, fame,
and social status, in the Church as well as outside of it.
I remember the story
of Martin Luther of Germany. I use this particular man
because of his personal quest for knowledge and
understanding of the real meaning of life. I must admit that
this man inspired my personal life. There was a time in
Luther’s life that he was a follower of men and higher
learning, but it wasn't long until God revealed to him that
he was void of the real truth. You see, we do not realize
that what we deem as knowledge and wisdom is, in reality,
childish rhetoric when compared to the knowledge and wisdom
of God. So we ask how do we attain to this higher knowledge
and wisdom. Where does it come from? Martin Luther found the
secret of life when he started reading the Bible for
himself. Yes, it was thru the studying of the Word of God
that started Luther to think upon God's level for the first
time in his life. Luther had exhausted the books and
lectures that the Church offered and had even attained the
title of a Master of Divinity from the college.
Nevertheless, Luther still found himself void of Heavenly
understanding. He discovered himself to be a man most
miserable. It was not until the day that the Holy Spirit of
God revealed to him that the truth of matters could only
come from God. God knew in the beginning that if He did not
divulge this untapped knowledge and wisdom in some shape or
form, mankind would go mad and be lost forever. Such is the
very reason for the Bible in our hands today. Martin Luther
made it his life's work to translate the Latin Vulgate of
the Catholic Church into his native German language, a
German translation for a German people for the first time in
history.
We as Christians
constantly strive for masteries and approval of man. We
cherish the parchment diplomas as men praise our earthly
accomplishments. Yet, it is not until the individuals places
all of men's accolades aside and humbles themselves in the
sight of God that they begin to comprehend that they know
nothing at all. We will discover by reading the Bible that
academics are for the most part only man's approval of
worldly knowledge. Oh yes, academics have their place, but
not in front of God's Word. I found that if I place the
Bible above everything else, I discover that my teachers are
void of this wisdom. My only desire in life is to pursue the
truth of matters that can only be found in the Word of God.
Everything else is just trivial news.
Today, I am a free
man; free from denominational dogma, free from the biased
news of the world, and free from the oppression of all men.
This freedom came to me simply from reading the Bible for
myself. Martin Luther King Jr. said it all in one phrase;
"Free At last, free at last, Praise God Almighty, I'm Free
At Last.” The TRUTH will set you free and that is a promise
of God to you and me.
Let us pray:
Holy Father, I
praise you for another day! I praise you for the blessings
of this past week and for watching over my loved ones and me
with such tender care and love that cannot be surpassed. I
praise you for saving me and keeping me in the Holy Spirit
of truth. I praise you for the truth of matters. I praise
you for the path you have set before me, to search the
Scriptures for myself and for the enlightenment that comes
with devotion to your Word. I praise you for knowledge,
wisdom, but most of all for understanding. Guide and direct
my feet today dear Lord and please give us all safety. I
praise you for my daily bread, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.
