Think Small

"He must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:30

Living in America, thinking small is not as easy as one would consider as we can recount the vast resources America contains. As born-again Christians in the modern world in which we live, we are compelled by all physical forces, external and internal, to be and propagate the competitive spirit. This attribute needs no encouragement when ego and pride are cultured and set loose, the very culprit by which this world strives. However, when we stop looking and focusing on the other man or woman and turn our attention toward God, it is only then we will attain a new prospective of ourselves. It is easy to measure ourselves against another person, but try measuring you against the God of creation and the Saviour of our souls. This is the very prospective the Apostle John possessed when he penned down these words of wisdom. The beloved John knew in his heart if he were ever to gain wisdom of his Saviour and of His Kingdom, he must submit himself as a little child, admitting to himself and to God that he was void of wisdom and knowledge. No doubt, this frame of mind is the most humbling experience a child of God will experience in culturing their spiritual growth. Our Lord desires for each of us to be wise and knowledgeable, but it will only come at a price of debasement of one’s self. If only we could gain insight to the culture of the Kingdom of God as it is only then that we will be able to understand exactly what God expects from us. John gave us this insight from his simple statement, "I must decrease.” What John is telling us is that it is imperative that we debase ourselves before God. We all must intentionally humble ourselves to the point of insignificance in the sight of God if we are ever to gain knowledge and wisdom of the culture and economy of the Kingdom. This is the mandate for all Christians.

"Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist:
notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
"
Matthew 11:11

I encourage you, dear Brother and Sister in Christ Jesus; let us strive with all our hearts to be the least in the Kingdom of God. We can accomplish this by pulling the plug on our personal, selfish, greedy, and self-sufficient endeavors while here on this earth. As Christ Jesus was our example as He walked with men here on earth, it is imperative that we put others ahead of ourselves in an effort to debase the competitive and prideful spirit that possesses all Americans.

Let us pray:

Holy Father, I call upon you in Jesus’ name, asking for forgiveness of my sins and shortcomings. Father, I humble myself, in your sight to ask that you teach me the right way, the proper way of the Kingdom of God. Holy Father, I admit that your ways are much higher than my earthly ways and therefore, I see myself unlearned and void of Heavenly wisdom. I make these mistakes because I am lacking in your knowledge. I admit to you Lord that I do not read and pray over my Bible, as I should. Please forgive me Lord. Teach me, O God, I pray, teach me and mold me into the fashion that would please you for my benefit in this short life. I pray that your will be accomplished in my humble life. Please help me to make a difference in the lives of others by being a witness and culture a spiritual growth that will bring honor and glory to you. I praise you Lord, for being patient with me and long-suffering with my ways. There are so many things that I admit I do not know and understand. Please Lord, make your ways, my ways, and give me understanding in the days to come so when I do meet you face to face, you will not appear to be disappointed in me. I love you Lord with all my heart. I yearn to please you everyday that I live. I praise you Lord for saving me and keeping my loved ones and me each day. Go with me today and please bless my loved ones. I pray for safety for my loved ones and me throughout this day. I thank you for my daily bread. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
